До 1999 г. в развитых капиталистических государствах, к которым можно отнести Японию, Германию, Великобританию, Францию, Италию, Швейцарию, Нидерланды и Бельгию, с некоторыми вариациями действовала банковская система с независимым центральным банком. При переходе России к капиталистическому пути развития также была внедрена банковская система с независимым центральным банком.
