численность населения и степень его стабильности; характер естественного и механического движения населения;

характер и сложность отраслевой и профессиональной структуры общественного производства, степень развития промышленности, строительства, транспорта;

уровень организации материально-пространственной среды, степень благоустройства поселения;

уровень развития обслуживания (сферы услуг), т.е. организация всех форм социального потребления;

социальные функции поселения (его роль в управлении обществом и народным хозяйством, функции по отношению к окружающим населенным пунктам);

образ жизни населения;

состояние сознания (специфические для данного населения нормы и ценности); характеризующая его дифференциация потребностей;

отношение к населенному пункту как к городу или как к деревне.

В целях доведения классификации поселений на «города» и «деревни» до операционального уровня, помимо формулирования теоретических критериев, необходимы:

система конкретных показателей, соответствующих каждому критерию;

система «пороговых» значений показателей, характеризующих переход от «деревни» к «городу»;

информация о количественных значениях этих показателей для совокупности изучаемых поселений.
