Во время встречи сопредседателей Японо-Российской Межправительственной комиссии По Торгово-экономическим вопросам, министра иностранных дел Японии Ехэя Коно и заместителя председателя Правительства России Виктора Христенко стороны обсудили а) положение в российской экономике и ход экономических реформ в России, б) сотрудничество на Дальнем Востоке; в) сотрудничество в области науки и техники; г) вопросы технического содействия России со стороны Японии. По последнему пункту был рассмотрен вопрос о подготовке меморандума между правительствами Японии и России о создании благоприятных условий для деятельности Японских центров по техническому содействию реформам, проводимым в России. Стороны обсудили и одобрили новую программу торгово- экономического сотрудничества, развивающую положения «Пана Хасимото-Ельцина». а также согласовали позиции по другим документам, которые были подписаны позднее во время визита Президента В.Путина. Министр иностранных дел Японии Еконо высказал пожелание, тобы Японо-Российской следующее Заседание межправительственной комиссии по Торгово-экономическим вопросам было проведено в ближайшее время в Москве. Российская сторона предложила включить в повестку дня заседания вопросы финансирования России по линии Японского банка международного сотрудничества

During the meeting, the co-Chairmen of the Sino-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic issues, the Japanese Foreign Minister Ehèâ Kono and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Khristenko, the parties discussed a) situation in the Russian economy and the progress of economic reforms in Russia, b) cooperation in the far East; in) cooperation in science and technology; g) technical assistance to Russia from Japan. On the last point addressed the issue of the preparation of the memorandum of understanding between the Governments of Japan and Russia on the creation of favourable conditions for the activity of Japanese technical assistance centres for reforms in Russia. The parties discussed and approved a new program of trade-economic cooperation, developing provisions Pana Hashimoto-Yeltsin. and also agreed on a position on the other documents that were signed later during the visit of President Vladimir Putin. Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ekono wished to Sino-Russian following a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic issues was held in Moscow in the near future. The Russian side proposed to include in the agenda of the meeting, the issues of financing of Russia through the Japan Bank for international cooperation
