During the meeting the co-chairs of the Japan-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Eheya Kono and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Khristenko, the sides discussed a) the situation in the Russian economy and the course of economic reforms in Russia, b) cooperation in the Far East; c) cooperation in the field of science and technology; d) the issues of technical assistance to Russia from Japan. On the latter point, it is considering the preparation of a memorandum between the governments of Japan and Russia on creation of favorable conditions for the activity of Japan Centers for technical assistance reforms in Russia. The parties discussed and approved the new program of trade and economic cooperation, the developing situation, "Hashimoto-Yeltsin Pan." and agreed positions on other documents, which were signed later during the visit of President Vladimir Putin.
